Thomas Bossard
Art
Mr. Bossard completed eleven years of teaching K-12 art in Connecticut. He has supported art education efforts in both Hartford and New Britain school districts. Mr. Bossard has also served as a faculty member for the State Dept. of Higher Education in the Alternate Route to Certification Program as the Master Teacher for incoming new art teachers in Connecticut. Mr. Bossard began his career as a Special Education teacher and Track and Football coach in Martins Ferry, Ohio. After several years he was approached by Corning Corporation to join their Corelle Tableware Design and Production Division�s manufacturing efforts. After five progressive promotions through Production Supervision, Planning, Inventory Control, Dept Head of Manufacturing, Human Resources Supervisor, he was asked to lead the Education, Training and Development function for the Corning Medical Division out of Medfield Mass. Company mergers and division acquisitions permitted Mr. Bossard to seek employment with Federal Express as a Fedex Station Manager in East Hartford. After several years with Fedex, Mr. Bossard applied and received his Connecticut Public Education certification and began his Connecticut teaching career at Annie Fisher Elementary School here in Hartford. He believes that classroom management based on the consistent application of processes and procedures is the foundation of any successful education program.

Doris Smith
Family Resource Aide
Mrs. Smith is the Family Resource Aide at Capital Prep. Her job includes helping to coordinate events in the school and the yearbook committee, working with the parents and making sure students are informed, involved and prepared. She received her Bachelors Degree at Central Connecticut State University and is hoping to pursue her Masters in Education. She has been married for the past 21 years to Daniel and they have three children Damion, Sherifa and Dante. In her spare time, Mrs. Smith likes to go to the movies, reading, coordinating Capital Prep’s Parent Organization and work with the students on future projects.

Sadiq Ali
History
Mr. Ali is been teaching for the Hartford Public School for 28 years. He is the founder of The Benjamin E. Mays Institute, an all-male academy of Lewis Fox Middle School. He also coached basketball, softball, volleyball and track for 15 years in HPS. He coached midget football and youth basketball in the town of Windsor for 10 years. Mr. Ali serves as Athletics Committee chairperson of Windsor High School's Parent Teacher Student Association. He also serves as a Vice President of Membership for the booster club and as Academic Advisor and proctor for the football team. Mr. Ali is married to Janice Thomas-Brown and the father of William and Janta Brown.

Arleen Monroe
Inclusion Teacher
Mrs. Arleen Monroe is a New Jersey native who has spent her entire professional career in Hartford, CT. Mrs. Monroe comes to us this year after teaching at Weaver High School in Hartford for twenty six years. Through the years, she has been a resource teacher, self-contained content teacher, the head teacher of her dept. and was Weaver’s Literacy Facilitator. Also, Mrs. Monroe was the Lead Teacher for the summer school program and Weaver’s S.O.S. Saturday program (save our students). Mrs. Monroe’s greatest attribute is her commitment and advocacy for students who perform at varying academic, social and emotional levels. Mrs. Monroe lives in Hartford and her three children attended Hartford Public Schools. Her husband was also a Hartford educator and now is an instructor at Eastern CT State University. Mrs. Monroe enjoys the diversity that Capital Prep offers its students and staff and feels it sets the tone for greater intellectual stimulation and personal growth.

Scott Wojnarowicz
Mathematics
Scott Wojnarowicz graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Masters Degree of Education in 1999. He is the co-department head of Capital Prep’s mathematics department and was the coach of the cross-country team that won Capital’s first varsity meet. In spring 2004 the Connecticut Mathematics Journal published an article written by Scott Wojnarowicz titled “Students’ Perceptions of Mathematical Problem Solving”. This article describes the necessity of problem solving in a mathematics classroom and is the foundation of the department’s emphasis on critical thinking. His favorite number is 555 and color blue. On the weekend he rocks to Green Day while training to place better than 13th in the next Hartford half-marathon.

Scott Kapralos
Mathematics
Mr. Kapralos has been teaching for four years. He has previously taught in the East Hartford and South Windsor school districts where he taught math classes ranging from Algebra I through Calculus. This year, Mr. Kapralos is teaching Impact I, Pre-Algebra, and Algebra. Outside of school, Mr. K. likes to go rock climbing, reading and work on his house.

Monique Ethier
Mathematics
Miss Ethier graduated from the University of Connecticut's Integrated Bachelor's/Master's program in Math Education in May 2007. She is excited to be a new part of the Capital Prep staff and hopes to share her enthusiasm for learning—especially when it comes to social justice and mathematics. She recently completed an educational internship in Port au Prince, Haiti where she volunteered with a scholarship program. The experience has deeply affected her passion and appreciation for education. While there, she developed a love of Haitian culture and the Creole language. Miss Ethier grew up in Rhode Island and therefore loves the beach and swimming. She also enjoys cooking and dancing.

Terrance Lynch
Physical Education
I went to a Military college called The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. I majored in Physical Education with a minor in Health and graduated in 1982. I was a New Britain police officer for sixteen years and retired in 2003. For the last three years I taught Physical Education and Health at Oakbridge School in Bloomfield. I have two boys, the oldest is a senior in college studying to be a teacher and my youngest is in the army. I like the outdoors, camping and hunting.

Maxine O’Connor
School Secretary
Maxine is the Executive Assistant. She has worked for the Hartford School District for over 10 years and enjoys her job, especially interacting with the staff and with the student, and seeing the children in their uniform. She loves the location of the school and the accessibility to the library of Capital Community College where she often goes in her lunch break to read. Ms. O’Connor has three children; Kellie, Teague and Kyle. She enjoys traveling; especially to pamper herself at spas; loves music, finds flowers irresistible and often treats herself to a beautiful bunch of roses. She graduated from Bay Path College with a Bachelor’s Degree in liberal arts and is currently working on her Masters.

Wenzola Perry
Social Worker
Ms. Perry has been a license clinical Social Worker for the Hartford Public System for the past twenty years. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Pitzer College, Claremont, California, and a Masters of Social Work, from the University of Connecticut. She has utilized her professional expertise for the past twenty eight years working with children and families in various settings that not only include Hartford Public Schools, but also in hospitals, residential facilities, public health agencies and the criminal justice system. She has also served as Field Faculty instructor for The University of Connecticut, School of Social Work, and St. Joseph College. Ms. Perry is a strong advocate for children and adolescents. She firmly that as leaders of youth in school settings, adults have the responsibility for ensuring that our youth receive a solid education, moral guidance and a fostering of positive self confidence.
